Putin Derides 'Russian Hoax' in Trump Call

President Trump's account of his hour-long telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin provides a stunning example of the meaning of the Soviet era phrase "useful idiot". That expression described a person too unintelligent to realize he was being used to advance Russian interests.
In the face of overwhelming evidence of Russian interference in our elections, Mr. Trump joined Putin to dismiss the irrefutable findings of the intelligence community and the documented conclusions of the Mueller Report as a "hoax". Our president miss-described Russian meddling in Venezuela as "positive" even as other members of his administration decried Russian intrusion in the affairs of "our hemisphere". Once again, Mr. Trump made no complaint and delivered no warning to forestall continued Russian interference.
Mr. Trump told us that Putin, during their conversation, was smiling. I bet he was laughing his head off.
